Tight lines vs. natural lines
I have always been fascinated with automobile racing. The contrast between the sophisticated machines with tight tolerances and very little room for error at speed with the undependable element of the human driver, the various road conditions, and the weather. It's a multi-sensory art, the beatiful design and build of the machines, the elegant layout of the tracks, the smells of the gasoline and oil, the noise of the engines, tires, and crowd. I like to confront this sport with the loosest materials I can find, like bamboo pens and ink and wash on hand-made rice paper.
